Mercy Corps is an international development organization that helps people around the world survive and thrive after conflict, crisis and natural disaster. With a network of 4,000 experienced professionals in more than 40 countries, we partner with local communities to help people recover from hardship and build better lives. During our thirty-year history, our work has improved more than 100 million lives in more than 60 countries around the world.
Mercy Corps is engaged in energy access work in 14 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. In 2014, Mercy Corps joined the InterAgency Standing Committee Task Force on Safe Access to Firewood and alternative Energy in Humanitarian Settings (SAFEtask force) in order to elevate the importance of energy access in humanitarian settings within the global energy community and throughout our agency’s own humanitarian work.
Mercy Corps is an implementing agency that works across the humanitarian and development spectrum, often in fragile states and countries experiencing both acute and chronic emergencies. We recognize the importance of safe access to fuel and energy in our humanitarian response efforts, and the SAFE Humanitarian Working Group provides a platform to learn, coordinate, and improve SAFE work within our programs as well as contribute our eexperience implementing models for market development within complex crisis settings.
