The Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit” (GIZ) offers customized solutions to complex challenges. GIZ is an experienced service provider and assists the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation. GIZ offers demand-driven, tailor-made, and effective services for sustainable development.

Access to basic energy services is a core working area of GIZ. The GIZ sector programme “Poverty-oriented basic energy services” (HERA) disposes of a long term trajectory in developing and promoting approaches for access to modern energy services which render positive economic, ecological and social benefits.

Why GIZ-HERA Joined the SAFE Humanitarian Working Group

Based on HERA's experiences, we intend to put more emphasis on approaches that provide sustainable access to energy for refugees in medium and longer term camps. For that reason, we are interested in exchange of information and good practices, coordination of interventions, cooperation with other organizations in the sector and the development of specific approaches that may be combined with other programs of the German Development Cooperation and others.

HERA's special interest lies in those approaches that offer opportunities for the creation of sustainable access to basic energy services, capacity development, local value creation, productive use, and wider socio-economic, educational, gender, and health benefits.
