Energy for Displaced People: A Global Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy Solutions in Situations of Displacement

Responding to the need for more comprehensive provision from the international community to the rapidly growing and unprecedented amount of displaced people in the world, the "Energy for Displaced People: A Global Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy Solutions in Situations of Displacement” conference will convene governments, the UN system, the private sector, humanitarian practitioners and finance experts to develop a global plan of action around sustainable energy access for displaced people. Working towards the vision that very person affected by conflict or natural disaster will have access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy services by 2030, the participants will develop realistic and appropriate aims for forward positive change in the strategic areas of planning and coordination, policy, innovative finance, capacity building and monitoring. To build on the momentum of ongoing energy initiatives, this working level conference will serve as a connecting point for streamlined forward action around resilient provision for displaced populations.

The conference is convened on behalf of UNHCRIOMUNITARGIZThe Moving Energy InitiativePractical Action and the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. It is supported by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Working Sessions: Following a high-level opening and welcome, the participants will divide into the five strategic areas for an extended working time in which opportunities will be discussed and recommendations will be developed for the plan of action. To effectively utilize the gathered expertise toward the action plan formulation, the participants are kindly asked to indicate their top two preferred working areas in the registration form. The participants will be contributing to their working area of preference for the entirety of the planned working session time, as indicated in the agenda.

Evening Reception: We are delighted to propose your participation at the networking event hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). This unique networking opportunity is not only designed to exchange among participants. It will also allow to reach out to selected German companies that will present their state-of-the art technologies, which offer suitable solutions for smart and sustainable energy supply in refugee camps. Please register early as places are limited.


Venue: The conference will take place at the GIZ Representation, located at Reichpietschufer 20, 10785 Berlin, Germany.

Travel and Accommodation: Participants are responsible for arranging their travel, accommodation and related expenses. Lunch and coffee/tea breaks will be provided for registered participants.
